 EVOLUTION OF W.J.BRYAN’S CONCEPTION OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: FROM FORCEFUL RESOLUTION TO PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS

Abstract

This article deals with the evolution of the foreign policy views of the U. S. political leader W. J. Bryan who, headed anti-imperialistic movement of the XIX–XX centuries, developed the mechanism to implement a principle of the peaceful settlement of the disputes in the form of the international arbitration. His ideas of «cooling-off» arbitration have been realised in the bilateral «conciliation treaties» concluded by the USA in 1913 with 30 states and considered at the creation of the Versailles system, proclaiming the possibility of solving international conflicts by peaceful means at so high level.
